Mental health related problems, even nowadays, are poorly treated due to an explosive cocktail of, in some cases, lack of proper funding, lack of fit-for-purpose specialists or pure ignorance; generating a never-ending situation where people affected other than getting the proper care required are either left for themselves thus generating even bigger issues or, in some cases like in Southeast Asia or Africa where people with mental health conditions are treated worse than animals with the use of shackles to keep them chained, unable to move and in unfit, unhealthy conditions due to the stigma that mental conditions could carry in their society.
