Regardless of the economic development and overall progress that most of Southeast Asia and the Middle East has gone through in the last decades, there is a tragic reality which is the regular and denigrating use of workforce from fellow Asian countries. Coming from less privileged countries, these workers status is more similar to being a slave than a regular citizen. They are forced to live and socialize in separated government facilities called “dormitories”, pretty much an open-air apartheid where different economic classes are clearly separated. These workers are key to keep some of the most affluent Southeast Asian and Middle East countries moving, from construction to cleaning services, most of the basic services are staffed by migrant workers but, all the way from the government to the overall population, they are disrespected, and their human and worker rights taken from them.
